Race day is almost here!

Are you ready for the 4th Annual SoCal Wine Country Women’s Half & 5K at the Vail Lake Resort?¬†While you are entering your last couple weeks of prep for the race, I wanted to bring up the extremely important topic of race day hydration. Please read this thoroughly so you are prepared on race day and you can get the most enjoyment out of your event!

Weather
While some areas have been getting some much needed rain and cooler temps, don’t be fooled. Odds are it will be HOT on race day! Temps in Temecula can be very warm compared to other areas in Southern California, so please be ready to run in warmer temperatures than what you have been training.

Course
This course is challenging and very exposed. There is no shade on the trails, and therefore the sun will have its way with you. The constant exposure will make the temperatures feel warmer than they already do. Please keep this in mind when choosing your race day outfit. Sun protection will be a huge help!

Aid Stations
For those of you joining us for your first trail race, this is VERY important. THIS IS NOT A ROAD RACE! Aid stations will NOT be every mile. Aid station locations are as follows:

Half Marathon: Miles 2.2, 5, 6.2, 7.1, 8.6 (water only), 10.5, & 12.4 (water only)
5K: Miles .7 & 2.4 (both are water only)

For more information about the course, please visit the website: http://socalwinecountryhalf.com/event-info/location-and-course/

Self-Sufficiency
The best way to enjoy a trail race is to go into it as self-sufficient as you can. This means carrying the hydration and nutrition that has been working for you during training. By carrying a hydration pack, waist belt, or hand bottles, you’ll be able to bypass some or all of the aid stations, improve your time, and stay topped off between aid stations. I can’t stress enough how important it will be to carry, at minimum, a bottle of water with you on the course!

If you don’t already have something to carry water with you, be sure to pick one up at Running Skirts or Laces Running Company during the pre-race day packet pickup hours!

Now that you have a better idea of what to expect on race day, I know you’ll all show up well-prepared. I can’t wait to see your smiling faces as you cross that finish line and enjoy some wine out of your new wine glass!

See you in a couple weeks!

Sincerely,
Paul Jesse
